Gorge Dog is located in the heart of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Trees,
mountains and rivers surround us. Hood River is considered the windsurfing mecca
of the continental United States and in recent years has grown in popularity with
Kayakers, Mountain bikers, Hikers, Snowboarders, Golfers, Fishermen and other
outdoor enthusiasts.
We started talking about dogs' one day and were hard pressed to find one of
our outdoorsy friends that did not own a pooch. That is how "Gorge Dog"
emerged. With our love for animals and longtime relationship with retail, we set
out to offer great K-9 products with great service all while having a great time.
I first visited Hood River in the summer of 1986, and I knew that someday I
would move here permanently. This part of the country is made up of mountains,
valleys and rivers, and is a great haven for any animal.
Dave and I met in 1996 through mutual friends. I was working in a windsurfing
shop and Dave is a Physical Therapist. We adopted Tonka (alias: The Woo, peaches
and cream, peanut butter, pumpkin pie, Rubes, Sweetpea, dammit dog, etc……………)
that October.  Tonka is a mix of black lab, probably golden retriever and maybe
some pyrenees or newfie, we're not sure. He weighs around 115 and rules our lives.
Tonka is definitely in charge of the exercise routine around our house. He loves
his daily walks but would prefer to be mountain biking, swimming or snowshoeing
any day of the week.
When the opportunity of a storefront presented itself in downtown Hood River,
we jumped at the chance to open a canine castle. Gorge Dog opened its doors on
November 17th in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, and we are having a great
time !!
So, whether it's with belly rubs, treats or toys, we believe that dogs have
a short life span and should be spoiled everyday !! Thanks for taking the time
